Melber’s segment includes lots of excerpts from ‘The Devil’s Advocate,’ one of my all-time favourite movies for many reasons: Al Pacino (say no more); Keanu Reeves (say no more); Charlize Theron in her breakout role and sporting a truly great southern accent (for a South African); and Connie Nielsen doing a star turn as The Whore of Babylon (lately come to the cunning practice of international corporate law, like the law firm I used to work for at the World Trade Centre, Brown, Wood, Ivy Mitchell and Petty Partners at Law, on the 56th, 57th and 58th floors of Tower 1 — the North Tower — from 1983 to 1986); and Jeffrey Jones playing an utterly doomed Faustian character whose spectacular fall we get to watch go down (literally) amid the gilded penthouses of Manhattan, scenes for which were filmed on the top 4 floors of Trump Tower in Donald Trump’s ultimately tacky, over-gilded penthouse.
