An Un-Censored History of God
The figure of a monotheistic father god, of the sort most people think of with the nominer, ‘God,’ first began to be configured into the deity we recognize today by that general term around 2,500 BC., when Kurgan tribes began to push south across the Caucasus, the Pamirs, the Iranian Plateau and the Taurus Massif into the Levant, Persia, and Arabia, their warrior elite forming the ruling elite of the societies and civilizations they conquered. They brought with them their Cattle Cult society, their philosophy and values of war, their dominant ideologies and ideologies of dominance, and their dominant One God, Great Tengri, a mountain and sky god whose avatar was an eagle, and whose divinity was worshiped in and as the sun.
This archetype gave rise to the father god figures of Hebrew Yahweh, Canaanite Bal, and Indo-Iranian/Indo-Aryan/Indo-European Djeus Pitar (Father Zeus, Dios Pater, otherwise known as ‘God the Father’ or Allah). This is the late version we recognize today in the Three Main Orthodoxies of the Abrahamic religions of Judeo-Christianity: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The archetype progressed from initially being paired with the Goddesses worshipped in the conquered lands as Her husband.
Ultimately, the new, imported god of the steppe warriors edged Her out and his priesthoods forbade Her worship, as in the Old Testament where the patriarchs call Her ‘The Whore of Babylon’ and Her devotions “abomination” and/or “pollution.” “…the Israelites who were there went out to the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh. After they had destroyed all of them, the Israelites returned to their own towns and to their own property.” (Chronicles 2:31, New International Bible)
Below are four 1st-century seal depictions of Yahweh/Jahovah from the Greco-Roman Levant in or around the purported time of Christ, showing ‘God’ with cock’s head and snake legs:
Amulets also bore the image of Yahweh/Jahovah as an anguipede god:
The Greco Roman Hebrew Yahweh appropriated his anguipede attributes from his predecessor, also a Goddess, the Kurgan Tabiti or Api, who predated him on coins and medallions by several centuries:
She gave her image to the archaic anguipede Greek and Etruscan Goddesses. The Renaissance sculptor, Pirro Ligorio, depicted Archaic Greek Echidna below, in 1555, based on ancient depictions on vases and friezes:
And Her image appears in a noble Etruscan tomb from the 3rd century BC, as shown in this artist’s rendering:
Her image appears about a century and a half before the time of Christ and contemporary Yahweh as a cock-headed anguipede, as in these post-Alexandrian Empire versions from the reign of Telephos:
The anguipedal wolf-headed Goddess (or possibly Sacred Androgyne) below, on this Roman limestone relief from the 3rd century AD, brandishes a caduceus, poppies, and a sheaf of wheat in one hand and a scythe or comb (for winnowing) in the other, representing the attributes or regalia of a Mystery Religion. She may represent Lupa, the Wolf Mother of Rome.
