Magnitudes of Scale, Atrocity and Change
Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan have been found guilty of all counts in the federal trial of the three men charged with violating Ahmaud Arbery’s civil rights. The Hate Crime convictions are in addition to the murder convictions already brought against these perpetrators, for which they are all already sentenced to life in prison.
It is unlikely that this verdict would have been so readily returned even 5 years ago — or at any point in U.S. history prior to the guilty verdict against a White cop in the murder of George Floyd, recorded by a brilliant and courageous teenager who kept her head, and the outpouring of Black Lives Matter activism occurring in its wake. In this case, along with scores of Hate-filled racist texts and emails nailing the coffin lid down on these killers, there was the video recording made of their Hate crime by the perps themselves; they were so proud of their murderous deed.
It’s all coming out now. White male protectionism is starting to fail, the racism that was always there to murderous degrees is being outed (why right-wing racists are so upset about ‘woke’ culture or critical race theory entering into legal education, discourse and actual law) — the Church finally becoming legally answerable as the worst child abusing institution in the world…Racialized, politicized and genderized police brutality has always been egregious, especially in the Southern U.S. It’s just that now it’s being photographed, videotaped and charged. In the Victorian era, every fourth block of London held a child brothel — childhood sexual abuse is not a worse problem these days; it’s likely just the same magnitude of atrocity but now starting to be outed and litigated— so it’s more visible.
Partisan politics are now simply revealing the crap notions and policies of the Right as fundamentally destructive and polarizing, in a way more transparent and available to critique than even during the Nazi disinformation and Hate media ideological blitz. Climate change has not even begun to be addressed yet, meanwhile polluting goes on apace — that crisis, in point of fact, is the only real crisis we face right now — barring an asteroid, a more deadly microbe than Covid, or Putin choosing to deploy nuclear weapons in Europe. Everything IS being sorted…This is what it looks like.
