Israel proper was largely in favour of Palestinian autonomy and an end to the Israeli occupation prior to the disgusting Hamas attack. Netenyahu, already under investigation pending indictments for corruption, would have been voted out, a liberal government would have been voted in, and the will of the people would have been done.
But the cowardly and disgusting Hamas leadership, most of whom are safely ensconced in distant places, didn’t want that, as it would obviate the reason for their criminal being. So they planned and engineered the most atrocious attack possible, as usual victimizing innocents, non-combatant civilian men, women and children, with rape and infanticide their leading hallmarks, guaranteed to keep the state of war going at fever pitch, apocalyptic war being their entire raison d’être.
Needless to say, Netanyahu can hardly be said to have wanted the peaceful option either, as it would have occasioned his political demise, criminal trial and possible imprisonment.
